In a fight that can only make you ask “Why?“ It’s being rumored that legendary MMA fighter Ken Shamrock will fight none other then Xtreme Couture Coach and Striking trainer Shawn Tompkins in a kickboxing match.

“I just signed a 3 fight deal with XFA, which is a K-1 kickboxing promotion in Las Vegas,” Tompkins told MMA Training. “I’ll be doing my first fight September 26th. Between September, December and February. They are looking at my first fight being Ken Shamrock.”

Shamrock at this time is 0-5 in his last five fights and has not had a win since Kimo Leopoldo at UFC 48 in 2004. Tompkins is 0-4 in MMA and has an extensive background in kickboxing and the standup arts.

Here is some footage of Shamrock trying a kickboxing bout against none other then knockout machine and Thai-boxing world champion Frank Lobman. The guy doing the commentating is none other then Frank Lobman himself.

I’m sure everyone would agree that this fight would make much more sense if it was to be under MMA rules. It would be the old “striker versus grappler” type match-up and if Shamrock were to win maybe it could setup a Bas Rutten versus Ken Shamrock 3 rematch (we could only hope) as Tompkins is a student under Bas Rutten, is certified and teaches the standup portion of Bas Rutten’s MMA System, and Rutten has stated he would not come out of retirement to fight Shamrock as things are now.
