In what is a first in the Netherlands, former Cage Rage Light Heavyweight Champion Melvin Manhoef has created a kid’s kickboxing tournament that follows the same format as a K-1 tournament. On June 21st Manhoef will organize the first Kids Kickbox Championship (KKC) in Amsterdam. The organization’s goal is to make to the sport of kickboxing more professional for children and to take them more seriously. During the first event there will be nearly thirty fights with children varying in age between eight and fifteen. Fighters will vary from beginners to almost professionals who’ve fought already more than twenty times. As the first in Holland there will be an eight man tournament of the eight best boys from the Netherlands and Belgium in the category 14/15 years old, 50 to 52 kg in weight. According to Sabine Kesseler, one of the organizers of the event: “All these boys are very experienced, very well developed and technical. It’s going to be a very exciting tournament. The tournament is sponsored by the ABN Amro bank and the winner gets a back account with 2500 euro’s ( for study, or anything responsible). They also win a belt. We are taking this very seriously and make it like a K1 event for children complete with press conference etc. All fighters will come to the ring with their own music. Therefore we also have a big laser show. During this event we have a performance by a famous Dutch rapper and other entertainment. We will make this a night never to forget!” To find out more about the event you can check out their website at www.kickboxkids.nl or contact Sabine Kesseler at s.kesseler@seakfashionproduction.nl
