Sean Sherk comments on his positive steroid test
Sean Sherk has received much criticism from UFC fans and his upcoming opponent BJ Penn since he tested positive for the steroid nandrolone last year. Since the positive testing Sherk has remained adamant that he is innocent and went so far as to file an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) and underwent a lie detector test which he passed.
In a recent UFC.com interview Sherk had this to say about his whole ordeal: “The toughest part of this was the fact that I didn’t do it,” said Sherk. “I tried to plead my case and I was pleading my case to deaf ears. That was the hardest part about the whole thing, not being able to plead my case properly and not being able to get this thing overturned for something I didn’t do. I think with the evidence that I supplied the commission, it kinda speaks for itself. I felt like I did have a lot of evidence supporting my innocence and we did point out a lot of mistakes that they made on top of that. But it’s out of our hands.”
“This is definitely something that’s gonna be with me for a long time and people aren’t gonna forget about it, and it probably brings up some questions about me and my training,” he said. “It’s something I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about and dealing with and at some point in time you’ve just got to shrug your shoulders and say ‘well, it is what it is, and there’s nothing I can do about it.’”
Sherk is set to face BJ Penn in today’s main event at UFC 84 Ill Will.
