MMAyou.com: What are your best memories of your coach, Carlson Gracie, Sr.? Rey Diogo: My best memories? He's definitely my mentor and head instructor, you know. He's the guy that everything I have in my life today is owed to Carlson Gracie. He's the guy who always believes in me. Always next to me when I'm supposed to fight. Always next to me when I prepare myself to fight. Always tell me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. I'm thinking that, not only for me, but all my teammates I'm pretty sure. All mixed martial arts fighters and all guys in the fight business it's a big loss. Not only for me and not only for Carlson Gracie Academy, Carlson Gracie students. It's a big loss that we lost this tough guy. He's going to forever be my instructor. MMAyou.com: What did you admire in him the most as a coach? Rey Diogo: For me what's fresh in my mind is that he's always yelling at me to, "Take it easy. Slow down. Take your time." Those are the words I always hear from him. I knew that he always had confidence in me. Because he's always on my side to watch how I prepare myself. If I do something wrong, he's the first to walk to me to tell me that there's no right and there's no wrong. He pretty much doesn't say much when I fight because he believes in me all the time. The only thing I really hear from him was to take it easy. Take it slow. Take your time." MMAyou.com: Who were the teammates you looked up to and enjoyed watching? Rey Diogo: I have some guy from Carlson Gracie Team that I'm a big fan of. I can tell you so many names. In my mind right now, I can tell you Pexatinho (sp?), Alan Goes, Amaury Bitetti, Murilo Bustamante, Ricardo Liborio, Wallid Ismail, Rodrigo Medeiros, Mario Sperry, Clovis Silva, Marcos Flexa, Marcelo Noco (sp?), and Carlson Gracie Jr. All these guys were my teammates and they're were pretty tough fighters. I always watched when they trained and when they fight because I know I can always pick something up for myself for my own game. MMAyou.com: Who was the toughest ones when you were training? Rey Diogo: I can mention a few names, you know? Alan Goes, Mario Sperry, Ricardo Liborio, Murilo Bustamante, Amaury Bitette MMAyou.com: I'll say those names and you tell me what comes to your mind about them. First one is Amaury Bitette. Rey Diogo: Complete fighter. Strong on his feet and strong on the ground. MMAyou.com: Mario Sperry Rey Diogo: He's a tractor. He's a monster, you know. Good friend of mine and good teammate. I always have a hard time when I train with him. Very strong and very powerful in the top game.
MMAyou.com: Murilo Bustamante
