Crosley Gracie on Melvin Manhoef - I need to get a rematch with that guy. PDF Print E-mail

MMAyou.com interviewed Gracie fighter Crosley Gracie. Check out what Gracie had to say regarding a rematch with Melvin Manhoef, who he thinks will win in the upcoming Penn/Sherk fight, who are the best Gracie fighters, and what he's been up to lately.

MMAyou.com: First, how are you doing?

Gracie: I’m excellent. How bout you?

MMAyou.com:
I’m good, thank you. No one ever asks me that when I interview them so thank you (both laugh). My first question, why have you not fought MMA in so long?

Gracie: For one thing I opened up a new school last year so I’ve been really focusing on that. And the demand here’s been really high and I’m actually moving to a bigger location in a couple months. So yeah, that’s been my focus lately, just to be training people and being really busy here teaching.

I’ve been training regularly so I’m in decent shape. Waiting for a good offer to appear, to show up.

MMAyou.com: Do you want a rematch with Melvin Manhoef?

Gracie: Oh yeah eventually. I need to get a rematch with that guy just so people can see that wasn’t really me that fought. I took that fight on two days notice. Even though I don’t regret it, it was a good experience, I definitely eventually in the future want to get a rematch with him so he can see what I’m really about.

MMAyou.com: Who was the founder of Gracie Jiu Jitsu?

Gracie: The founder of Gracie Jiu Jitsu was Carlos Gracie. He was the one who developed into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Helio definitely was the one that fought and made also some adjustments adding leverage to the art. Carlos definitely was the one. If it wasn’t for Carlos, Helio wouldn’t know anything.

MMAyou.com: Would you ever want to fight BJ Penn and avenge Rodrigo and Renzo’s losses?

Gracie: No, I have nothing personal against BJ Penn. I’ve actually hung out with the guy a couple times, a really cool guy. If people want to see that fight, and I definitely would like to fight him if that’s what people want to see if the purse is right and everything’s right. I don’t mind fighting him just like I don’t mind fighting anybody else as long the offer is right and the time is right. I have no problem. I have nothing personal against him, no animosity for him beating a couple of family members.

MMAyou.com:
Who were the top three fighters of all time from the Gracie family?

Gracie: Helio, Carlson, Rolls, Rickson and Royce were the best fighters in every discipline in their time, so I can't name any top 3 because of that, they were in different eras.

MMAyou.com: Why do you think Carley Gracie is hardly ever mentioned by other Gracie family members yet he says he is the best in the family.

Gracie: I guess because he has a different personality, he doesn’t get along with very many people. I also heard good things about him in the family in the past from his days, he use to be a really tough fighter. I guess people don’t mention him very much because he’s not a very friendly guy.

MMAyou.com:
What is your opinion of Eddie Bravo’s Jiu Jitsu game?

Gracie: I don’t know much about his… The only thing I know about him is when he beat Royler. Everyone that beats a Gracie becomes a

MMAyou.com:
A household name.

Gracie: Exactly, becomes a big name. I see a relation with him and the Rubber Guard. He seems to be doing pretty good I guess because his name is out there.

MMAyou.com: How do you see the BJ vs. Sherk fight going down?

Gracie: BJ by submission.

MMAyou.com: Anything you’d like to say to our readers?

Gracie: Just like to thank you guys for the support of MMA. You guys will be able to see me back in the ring pretty soon. I’m just taking my time over here running my school and doing some seminars here and there. I’ll be back to fight pretty soon if the readers ever wonder what happened to me. I’m not done. I’m not even close to done yet. I’m still 28. About ten years of fighting still, so I’m just taking my time running my business right now but I’ll be back pretty soon.

Keep up the good work supporting the sport!
