In this second portion of our two part interview with the legendary John Machado; Machado For part 1 click here. MMAyou.com: Who can beat Fedor and how would you say they could do it? Machado: I think it could be a few tough guys. Nobody's punch proof out there. It's about the strategy. It depends. Randy Couture wants to fight him. A lot of guys want to fight Fedor. Even Tim Sylvia, Tim Sylvia might knock him down, who knows? Nobody's unbeatable in MMA in my opinion. You can go from UFC in a cage to a ring in Japan so everything changes. The rules, suddenly you can kick in the face, suddenly you cannot kick in the face. Fedor is a hard guy to beat in my eyes that's why he's the champion. MMAyou.com: Who are the top three BJJ guys in BJJ rules? Machado: In BJJ rules? So you talk about competition as an artist. MMAyou.com: Yeah, not in MMA, just in straight BJJ. Machado: Only three? It's too¦¦ MMAyou.com: Or go as many as you like (both laugh). Machado: So your question's three? You have a lot of good guys. I think that each generation have a (inaudible) generation. So we have like Rickson in his times, Rickson. Rigan. Jean Jacques and Carlos my brothers. Some of these guys are still around competing but you have already a new generation already coming. Jean Jacque of course, a great champion in Jiu Jitsu. Rolls, Renzo, and Royler Gracie. I'm just talking relatives because I have a huge family. I'm not even talking other guys from Carlson Gracie team, oh my gosh! Bustamenta, Cassio Cardoso, it was a time they had so many good fighters it was unbelievable. Today actually for me it's easier. Today you see guys like Roger Gracie, Jacare, Garcia. You can count on your hand man as crazy as it is. It's so many people doing it, but I think the massification, and you have a few guys in your hand that kills everybody. They go and clean house every tournament. And now Kron Gracie of course, doing amazing, having amazing results. I think it goes by generation. Rolls Gracie in his days. He was the best in his days not only in the Gracie family but also the best competitor. MMAyou.com: What are your plans in the future as far as movies go? Machado: See for me, movies are just an expression. It's just one aspect of myself. I've been doing movies since 1994. Small movies and then later I produced my own movie in 97, a small budget martial arts movie. It's just to learn. The movie thing is one aspect. My whole life is not to do movies. See I make my own life and movies are part of it. But it's more then movies what I do. It's my brothers, my teaching, my schools, the way I still as a teacher am so young still. I know there are many more champions to come in Jiu Jitsu and MMA from the Machado camp. It's just a matter of having the time and the focus and we can do that. The movies I take as they come. It looks like more movies will be coming along because it's changing now. You see before you had for many years, since Steven Seagal, you haven't seen anymore martial arts movies on a large scale. Of course Chuck Norris is the biggest name in the martial arts and we are very good friends with him, and he did Walker Texas Ranger, but it didn't renew. It didn't have other people come around, you know what I mean. Like a new Chuck Norris, new people. It doesn’t have that. I think it's changing now. Definitely the popularity of MMA, it helped. It's exploding. I think it was a good coincident because David Mamet, if you know about the story, he wanted to make a story about the Jiu Jitsu world, the academy world, that he experienced with Renato in talking these stories that Renato told him. All these stories he made a movie about that. It is a coincidence and it is like a¦. I don't think it's a coincidence because the times are right for that and you have Never Back Down. More movies about martial arts like that made in America about fighting I think are better. More opportunities for people because there's more work for everybody. I didn't work on Never Back Down but I had friends that worked on Never Back Down, doing the choreography, training, like Erik Paulson, so I know all those guys. All the movies come out so it's better for everybody. So I think it's very important for the MMA community and the martial arts community to support those movies. Go there and buy a ticket. Support, because it will benefit everyone, you understand? I think everybody's winning. I was happy when Never Back Down came out. It was good for Red Belt, Red Belt's good for Never Back Down. Big or small it doesn't matter. I have a friend, did a movie, Andre Lima. We are partners in the academy, he's a Tae Kwon Do instructor. He did a movie "Beyond the Ring", it's doing very well, it's not a big production but the movie is very well done, very clean, very nice, and he's doing very well. The more we do that the better it is for everyone. More opportunities. MMAyou.com: In closing, is there anything you would like to say to our readers? Machado: Yeah I want to say to remember that MMA is huge right now, and to get even larger viewership, and to get even more popular then what it is now. But the big king for martial arts is, knowing different aspects of different styles of martial arts. You pick up a little bit of this, a little bit of that, then you are fine in MMA. But I think it is important to remember the mental aspect. In MMA it's about winning winning winning. In martial arts it's not about winning winning winning. It's a lifestyle. You win, you lose but it's a healthy lifestyle. In MMA a lot of the guys they don't care about that. They are getting punched in the head way too much in my opinion and getting hurt way too much. So they gotta just watch out. Randy Couture, Royce, and Anderson Silva don't get hit a lot, they play their game "safe". It's about not getting hit and hitting the other guy, this is fighting smart to me. A lot of guys, with those little gloves guys are throwing blows at each other like there's no tomorrow. I think for them to be aware, for the fighter's themselves to be aware of that because life goes on.
