Fight Like A Champion - What You Should Know About Training and Competing

Ole Laursen Interview PDF Print E-mail

MMAyou.com sat down with Muay Thai and Kings Cup Champion Ole Laursen. Check out what Ole has been up to, his gym in Thailand, and what his goals are for MMA.

MMAyou.com: First, how are you doing and what's new?

Laursen: I'm doing good, thanks. Not much is new. Still living in Thailand in the middle of my gym. Still training hard every day. I'm still training my submissions every day. Still training with my Thai coaches, still dreaming of becoming UFC champion.

MMAyou.com: You recently had your first MMA victory by way of submission. How is your ground game coming along?

Laursen: It's coming along slowly but surely.

MMAyou.com: What are your plans for MMA?

Laursen: I'm like any other fighter out there climbing the rankings. I dream of champion status with a major organization. I plan to fight my way up there. Beat names that people reckognise in MMA.

MMAyou.com: You've stepped into the ring with some amazing fighters; who has been your toughest opponent?

Laursen: I'm not too sure at the moment. Fought a lot of good guys. All tough in their own ways.

MMAyou.com: Do you know who you'll be fighting next?

Laursen: I hope to be fighting MMA again. I'm also scheduled to fight John Wayne Parr in Muay Thai (MMAyou.com side note: this fight takes place on 05/31/08).

MMAyou.com: Is there anyone you would like to face?

Laursen: Well, for a long time I've been doing Muay Thai while dreaming of MMA. I of course would like a rematch to anyone I ever lost to,but really I'm more concerned about climbing the MMA Rankings. So whoever is in my way up the hill is who I wanna fight.

MMAyou.com: Who teaches at Legacy Gym?

Laursen: I'm lucky to have four fine teachers of Muay Thai. All are skilled, all have their own style. One coach is more simple, not too flashy. Just good boxing and leg-kicks, elbows, knees but more of a fighter that comes out lookin to fight. The other one is more knee-man, other more of technician that rather run and hit you coming in. I got some good diversity and options in my training.

I also have an excellent submission/MMA fighter from Sweden. Scandinavian Shooto Champion, he teaches me in cage everyday.

MMAyou.com: Can anyone go and learn there?

Laursen: Sure, anyone willing to train.

MMAyou.com: Who trains there now?

Laursen: I have a few Thai kids, very promising. Some of them at their very young age of 13-15 already have as many fights as myself

MMAyou.com: Where are you located?

Laursen: I'm located in Ubon Ratchathani, Northeast of thailand in area they call Isaan, also known to hold the strongest fighters and most fighters in Thailand

MMAyou.com: How would someone go about getting in touch with Legacy to train?

Laursen: Just email me at legacygym@yahoo.com.

MMAyou.com: Do you have any programs for foreigners?

Laursen: Sure, we already have a few fighters coming in from world-wide to live and train with us. Some long term staying with us.

MMAyou.com: Anything you would like to say to your fans?

Laursen: Yes, I would like to thank all the people that have faith in my abilities. To the fans from Muay Thai concerned about me doing MMA, I am still a Muay Thai fighter, I still fight my heart out, Muay Thai is deep in my roots and will shine through when i fight regardless of rules.
