During the interview, Mayhem walked into the ring, and asked for a rematch against Sheilds.  No one is to sure how and who started the brawl, but what ensued will go down in MMA history along the lines of Coleman/Rua back in Pride.

Shields team, members of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu including Melendez and the Diaz brothers, stormed in and took Miller to the ground.  Gus Johnson got in on the action trying to break the fight up yelling, “Gentleman, we’re on National Television.”

After the fight broke up, Shields apologized, and Miller wasn’t allowed to the post fight conference.  He did have time to get on his twitter and say “Whoops”.

On a side note, Miller was able to dominate in his fight against Tim Stout.  Miller was able to pull of a TKO victory against Stout in the first round.

That’s why he’s my favorite; he’ll knock a dude out then get into the cage against one of the toughest camps and start a brawl.  Hopefully this isn’t the last of Miller we see in Strikeforce.

Shields fought a tough fight against an MMA legend in Dan Henderson, but during the fight he was able to counter Hendo’s wrestling.  On the ground Shields was able to get in some ground and pound and a few submission attempts.

For Shields is what a great win, but Hendo almost had him in the first 30 seconds when he rocked Shields with a heavy punch that dropped him.

“I was dizzy for a while there,” said Shields. “I didn’t know where I was in the first minute.”

Shields scored a takedown with just over a minute left in the first setting the tone for the rest of the fight. One of the top welterweights in the world, Shields used his hands well to set up single leg takedowns the rest of the way. Once the fight hit the ground, Shields dominated a tired and sluggish looking Henderson. He passed Henderson’s guard pretty easily and got to mount way too often against a top level fighter.

Aoki, who is a submission specialist, seemed less then ready to faceoff in the cage.  Melendez seemed to dictate where the fight would go, always stuffing the takedowns from Aoki.

“I just wanted to show I’m a complete mixed martial artist,” Melendez told MMA Fighting. “There are lots of guys who are good at one thing or another, I think I’ve proven I can do it all.  That guy’s tricky, you make one mistake and he gets you,” he said. “It was around the third round, he was in deep and stuffed his shot. I saw the look on his face, and I thought, ‘I broke him.’ I knew he wasn’t going to be confident in his shot anymore and I couldn’t relax, but I felt like I had it.”

Aoki looked devastated as he broke down when he left the cage. Later, when asked about what the result meant towards the Japanese vs. American MMA debate, he said, “The result of the fight says everything.”

Take it from a real Aoki fan, this loss does not mean Japan can’t dominate in the cage.  It just means he need’s to get more practice inside a cage, and once he is able to pull it off, he’ll be back better then ever.

Mousasi, known for his power, was never able to fully get his offense started.  King Mo always answered Mousasi’s stand up with amazing wrestling takedowns.  Although Mousasi was able to land some punches from his back, it was King Mo who was able to dominate more from the ground.

Lawal did take some damage as an accidental eye poke forced his eye shut.  Lawal said he had dealt with eye pokes on more then one occasion and fought through it. While it may not have been a masterpiece, Lawal should get credit for his game planning and the way in which he stayed out of danger. Though he likes to show his flashy side, Lawal is a true student of the game who studies fight tapes religiously and understood what type of fight was going to favor him.

“I knew I had to grind him out,” he said later. “I had to make it ugly.”

First up is the Lightweight Championship fight between current Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez and Current Dream champ Shinya Aoki.  Aoki is making his North American debut, and is considered to be the #2 lightweight fighter in the world.  Aoki is a strong Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Shooto fighter who is known for his devastating ground game.  Melendez on the other hand is a wrestler with minor training in BJJ.  This fight could go either way but I can see Aoki taking this fight by a 2^nd round submission.

Next on the card is a light heavyweight championship fight between current champ Gegard Mousasi and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.  Mousasi is a powerful Kickboxer with a record that could make him a legend in the sport.  He’s fought guys like Goodridge, Sokoudjou, Babalu, and Dennis Kang.  King Mo however is a newcomer in MMA, but holds an amazing record where 5 of his 6 wins have come by a KO victory.  King Mo is also a National NCAA wrestling champion.  In what could be the most explosive fight on the main card, it’s a tough call, but King Mo by a first round TKO victory.

Now onto the fight that everyone has been waiting for.  The title fight between current Middleweight champ Jake Shields and former Pride Champ and UFC Veteran Dan Henderson.  Both fighters bring something to the fight, with Shields best attribute his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Henderson’s wrestling, boxing, and experience.  This fight could go either way, but I’d call Dan Henderson by KO victory in the 2^nd round.

Keep an eye out for other fights on the card such as Mayhem Jason Miller.

This Following weekend Anderson Silva defended his belt against Demian Maia, which proved to be a lackluster fight with the only entertaining going on was the dancing.  This wasn’t the first time Silva acted this way in the cage. In recent bouts against Patrick Cote and Thales Leites, Silva danced around the ring but never finished the fights in previous fashion.

Henderson and Silva met back in 2008 to unify the Pride and UFC Middleweight belt, in which Silva was able to lock a submission and win the fight.  Ever since then Silva hasn’t been able to finish his fights like he used to.

“I think he fights like an idiot,” Henderson said in a chat with MMAFighting.com readers. “I don’t think anyone knows what’s going through his head these days, why he’d fight like that.”

Dan Henderson is set to take on Jake Shields for the Strikeforce Middleweight belt this coming weekend.

“I hope he comes over to the UFC, it’d be great” Liddell said Monday on a TUF 11 conference call. “He’s got a fight coming up soon at 185. He moved up to 185 … He really needs to come back to his weight class (at 170), come back to the UFC and make a run at it there.”

Before TUF 11, Shields and Liddell had known eachother prior.  Over ten years ago, before Shields went to Ceaser Gracie he turned to Liddell’s SLO Kickboxing Academy for two years of his MMA career.

Shields, who went on to establish a powerful jiu-jitsu game, which he dubs “American Jiu-Jitsu,” reversed roles with Liddell recently, passing along technical details to the UFC Hall of Famer while on the show.

“Jake’s one of the guys I used to train, actually,” Liddell said. “He’s come a long way with his stuff. He’s done some interesting stuff — he’s got some interesting fine points with his front chokes, and things like that. I grabbed a couple of things (from him).”

As Shields approaches his April 17 fight against Dan Henderson with only one fight left on his Strikeforce contract, Shields appears closer and closer to joining the UFC.

Shields has long talked about facing the best opponents and UFC president Dana White as of late has openly told reporters that he would be interested in adding Shields to the promotion’s welterweight roster.

Now he’s ready to take North America by storm.  After signing a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce, and a fight contract against Lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez, Aoki said adding the Strikeforce title would mean something important to him.  He says it’s not just for personal pride, but for national pride as well.

“I believe that Japan is the number one country in mixed martial arts, so I want to show that through this fight,” Aoki said Wednesday, through a translator. “Being the champion of two promotions, Dream and Strikeforce, that has a special meaning to me, to show Japan as number one.

Aoki is considered the second best lightweight in the world behind UFC champ BJ Penn.  Aoki say’s he has no plans to sign with the UFC, but would eventually like to fight BJ Penn.  Aoki knows that until he beats BJ Penn, he can’t call himself the best in the world, no matter how many belts are around his waist.

“I’m getting stronger every day,” Aoki said. “I’m not number one at the moment but I’m getting stronger every day. In the future I may have a fight with B.J. Penn.”

In addition to Penn, Aoki says he’s a big fan of UFC’s Kenny Florian, and that he will be watching when Florian faces Takanori Gomi this month.

Aoki said he’s not concerned about the rules differences between Japan and the United States, which include fighting in a cage and forcing Aoki to wear shorts rather than the grappling pants he prefers. But he is concerned about Melendez, whom he described as one of the toughest opponents he’s ever faced.

“I’m training in a cage so I’ll be ready for that,” Aoki said. “He’s strong in every element. It’s very difficult to find a weakness.

Until that weigh-in, American fans won’t see Aoki, and that’s how he likes it. For as excited as he is about the chance to fight for an American promotion’s title belt, he says his first priority is to make a good showing for Dream, and for Japan.

“My schedule is dependent on Dream so Dream will decide when I fight again,” Aoki said. “The United States is the biggest market so it’s important for me to attract fans here and make a good impression in the U.S. market, but if I win the Strikeforce belt I am doing it for Dream and for Japan.”

This will mark Aoki’s first appearance in North America, against #8 in the world, Melendez.  The two will be fighting for the Strikeforce lightweight title, but Aoki’s Dream title will not be up for grabs just yet.  Deals are being made to have an eventual rematch over in Japan with dream, where the bout would take place for Aoki’s belt.

Melendez-Aoki will be one of the three title fights the night of April 17^th.  Gegard Moussai will defend his light heavyweight title against undefeated wrestler Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, while Jake Shields will meet two-division Pride titleholder Dan Henderson.

Melendez, who turns 27 on April 12, unified the promotion’s lightweight titles with a five-round “fight of the year” contender against Josh Thompson last December in San Jose, Calif.

The 26-year-old Aoki grasped the Dream lightweight championship with a second-round armbar against Joachim Hansen at Dream 11 last October. The flamboyant submission artist snapped Sengoku champion Mizuto Hirota’s arm with an unconventional hammerlock in only 77 seconds at K-1 “Dynamite” on New Year’s Eve in Saitama, Japan.
