For The Ultimate Fighter Season 11, Chuck Liddell hand-picked Strikeforce Middleweight champ Jake Shields as an assistant coach.  Now the UFC Hall of famer is hoping the Strikeforce champ makes his debut inside the octagon soon.
“I hope he comes over to the UFC, it’d be great” Liddell said Monday on a TUF 11 conference call. “He’s got a fight coming up soon at 185. He moved up to 185 … He really needs to come back to his weight class (at 170), come back to the UFC and make a run at it there.”
Before TUF 11, Shields and Liddell had known eachother prior.  Over ten years ago, before Shields went to Ceaser Gracie he turned to Liddell’s SLO Kickboxing Academy [...]

Carwin-Lesnar will be Huge

shane-carwin-ko

Shane Carwin is a different breed of fighters.  He works full time as  Civil and Mechanical engineer in Northern Colorado, he’s the interim UFC Heavyweight champ, and a father.  Who would have thought that this jack of all trades could pull off 12 fights that ended in the first round.
“I’m wordless. I’m speechless,” was all the interim champ could think of after he demolished his latest victim, former UFC champ Frank Mir at UFC 111.
However, for Carwin, the challenges are only going to get bigger as he is set to face current UFC champ Brock Lesnar.  The two will meet July 3rd in Las Vegas, and it will be a huge fight.  In fact, the biggest title matchup ever, at [...]

Bonnar-Soszynski Rematch set for UFC 116

bonnar_ksos

After a very controversial ending at their first meeting in February, UFC fighters Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski are set to meet again at UFC 116 on July 3rd.
Bonnar and Soszynski met on the prelim card of UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia, but after two close rounds an accidental headbutt in the last few minutes of the third round forced the fight to end.  Even after many replays showed Soszynski throwing his head into the forehead of Bonnar, the ref ruled it a punch that cut open Bonnars head.
Both fighters showed interest in another fight, which was rumored for The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale, but instead it has been signed for UFC 116, which is headlined by the Lesnar-Carwin title [...]

ufc_1605299c

Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre had his way with England’s Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy but couldn’t finish him en route to a lopsided decision Saturday night at UFC 111.
St-Pierre pitched a shutout, winning by scores of 50-43, 50-44 and 50-45 and has now won 25 rounds in a row in the UFC
The 28-year-old from Montreal used his wrestling skills to dominate Hardy, who was unable to mount any offence in the face of St-Pierre’s relentless attack.
A game but outmatched Hardy showed his grit by refusing to tap during two wicked submission attempts.
“I thought he was made of rubber,” St-Pierre said. “It’s a win but I’m not very happy with myself. I made a lot [...]

Shane Carwin is Too dangerous for the UFC

ept_sports_mma_experts-928534446-1269750297

Frank Mir talked about how Carwin was better and bigger then Brock Lesnar.  Tonight Shane Carwin proved why that is true.  In what could have been an explosive fight back and forth, ended only four minutes into the first round.  Just a little bit longer then Carwin had hoped but he came out and won the fight.
In the first two minutes it seemed like Carwin may have had his toughest fight yet.  But in true Carwin fashion, he was able to relax, find that opening and unleash.  He gave Mir that one left hook that sealed the deal, and unloaded with two uppercuts and a barrage of punches.  The fight should have stopped after the first few punches, but it [...]

Did Ben Saunders make to hasty of a decision?

mma_sd_fitch_576

Two days before his fight with Jon Fitch, Thaigo Alves did not clear his medical, and had to undergo a CAT scan to find a brain irregularity.  Ben Saunders was more then ready to take the chance to fight Jon Fitch.  But did he make the wrong decision?
Saunders was taken down almost every time and was not dominating the fight.  Saunders, who is known for his explosive speed and power, was unable to get off his back against Fitch.
Jon Fitch, who is considered the new number one contender, was able to take down Saunders every time and control the fight.  No matter who he trained for, Fitch was just to good for Saunders, who may have been ill prepared and [...]

Jim Miller plows through Mark Bocek

jim-miller

Jim Miller and Mark Bocek fought to a hard decision tonight at UFC 111.  In which is probably fight of the night, Jim Miller was able to fight Bocek to a unanimous decision.
Bocek was able to get top position on Miller a few times, and even slammed Miller to the mat, Miller was able to walk away with a 29-28 decision.  Both fights pulled off two amazing submissions, but neither one tapped.  Bocek was cut early in the fight, which may have caused some problems for him.
In the end though, Miller walked away with a victory, but both fights put everything into that fight.

Fitch Already Looking past Thiago Alves

ufc87_10_st-pierre__551338a

Jon Fitch is set to fight Thiago Alves at UFC 111, but he’s already lobbying for a welterweight title rematch against Georges St. Pierre.
“I’ve cleaned out one side of the weight class, [Alves has] cleaned out the other. I beat him, it’s kind of like putting all those wins in my back pocket, too,” Fitch says in the upcoming Countdown to UFC 111 show. “If I could stop Thiago Alves I did something twice that GSP couldn’t do in five rounds.”
Fitch believes finishing Alves, which he has done once before in 2006, would put him next in line for the Welterweight title.
Obviously if Fitch beats Alves he can walk out of that Octagon as the Number 2 welterweight in the [...]
