“Too good, man. Too good,” Edgar said, as he tried holding back the tears. Though the judges were unanimous and Edgar dominated on two of the three scorecards, it wasn’t always an easy match to call, especially the first two rounds. But as the bout went on, Edgar became more active and kept getting through Penn’s defense.

The biggest sign it was going to be Edgar’s night: he completed a takedown of Penn and landed some shots on the mat, something that had not been done in six years.

When the final horn sounded, Edgar immediately raised his hands over his head in celebration while Penn immediately went to his corner.

“I just hope I can be half the champion he was.”

First up, the Middleweight Champion fight between current champ Anderson Silva and top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specalist Demian Maia.  Anderson Silva is coming off somewhat of an explosive fight against Forrest Griffin where he won by a first round verbal KO.  Griffin has gone undefeated in the octagon and is looking to keep heading down that road.  However he’s got some trouble as Demian Maia is also coming off amazing wins, except for the one KO loss to Nate Marquardt back in August.  This fight is going to be tough to call but I see Demian Maia going to the ground for a Submission victory in the 2^nd round.

Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn are set to fight for the Lightweight Title belt.  BJ Penn is a legend in the sport and has fought legends in the sport.  Coming off a deadly battle against Diego Sanchez, BJ Penn is ready to finish this fight.  Frankie Edgar on the other hand is coming off some all but amazing fights.  Only twice in the cage has he finished the fight.  It’s easy to say that Edgar is outmatched in this fight and BJ Penn will win by either Submission or KO.

Now the legend vs legend fight, UFC Vet Matt Hughes versus MMA Legend Renzo Gracie.  Gracie, as we all know, comes from the most famous family in MMA history.  He is an amazing BJJ artist, as well as a never quit fighter, much like his cousin Royce.  Hughes has had the honor of defeating a Gracie, along with many other legends such as BJ Penn, GSP, and Carlos Newton.  In the end Renzo Gracie by Submission in the 1^st round.

Other fights on the card are Terry Etim and Rafael Dos Anjos, and Kendal Grove versus Mark Munoz.  These fights take place Saturday April 7, 2010 on PPV.

“If everything goes well (at UFC 112), I’d definitely consider moving up to 170. Not that it’s 100-percent guaranteed, but I’m thinking about it,” Penn said recently during a UFC 112 media conference call. “If I do move, I’m going to move slow. I’m not going to try to rush anything. I’d think about it as testing the waters, something like Anderson Silva is doing (at light heavyweight).”

Penn (15-5-1) won the UFC welterweight title with a first-round submission of Matt Hughes in 2004, but dropped back-to-back fights to Georges St-Pierre and Hughes after return to the promotion in 2006. “The Prodigy” has since won five-straight at lightweight, while losing a rematch to St-Pierre at 170-pounds last January.

The two were scheduled to face off at UFC 111 last week, when Alves was sidelined by a brain irregulation during a CAT Scan. Alves went into surgery, and was told by doctors he only needed two or three weeks to recover before he can start training again.

Alves and Fitch are considered the best welterweights in the UFC, and it is rumored that the winner of this fight could face Georges St. Pierre, however both men have already lost to the champ. Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck are also deciding factors in the mix of top fighters.

Alves and Fitch fought in June 2006, with Fitch winning via second-round TKO. After that, Alves (17-6) reeled off a seven-fight win streak, which ended when he lost a five-round decision to St. Pierre at UFC 100.

UFC 115 takes place on June 12.

The fight was dominated early with Kenny Florians superb stand-up where he picked Gomi apart, and rarely let Gomi counter.  The 2^nd round Gomi had a few punches but not as much as Kenny Florian.  By the 3^rd it was clear who was winning the fight until Gomi came out with a nice combo that rocked Florian, but KenFlo took Gomi down and caught him with a rear naked choke.

Kenny Florian beat a legend in the game and he’s ready to make a run at the belt again.  As for Gomi, don’t count him out as this isn’t a setback just a learning experience.

Nelson and Struve came out swinging, but not even 40 seconds in, Nelson caught Struve with a clean right hook and that was the end of the game.  After a barrage of punches on the ground, Nelson was pulled off, and Struve sat there blood gushing from his nose.

Nelson has said that he wants to take on the elite fighters in the heavyweight division, and on Wednesday night he looked like he’s capable of it. At six feet and a blubbery 265 pounds, Nelson doesn’t look like much of an athlete, but the guy can fight.

“I think getting by Stefan puts me right in the title hunt,” Nelson said afterward. Nelson also said he’d be interested in fighting James Toney.

Nelson improved his record to 15-4. Struve falls to 19-4.

On a side note the fight was postponed due to a power surge inside the arena.

Tonight, on the undercard of Fight Night 21, Okami got the perfect opponent to show he is still one of the best.  Okami fought Lucio Linhares, and destroyed the Brazillian in the standup game.  Okami eventually came out with a TKO Victory after the doctor stopped the fight at 2:27 of the 2^nd round.

It was the type of fight the casual or new MMA fan loves. One onlooker screamed out, “this is awesome,” as Okami battered a clearly overmatched Linhares from post to post. Okami was looking to clinch early but Linhares, who kept switching from conventional to southpaw. But he was sloppy and Okami saw that he could land combinations whenever he wanted. He dropped Linhares with just over two minutes left in the first and then chose to go into Linhares’ guard. The first round ended and Linhares had a huge gash over his left eye in the eyebrow. In the second, Okami teed off from the opening seconds.

Okami could be back on his way to the top, and an eventual title fight could be in his future.

War Machine was a member of TUF season 6 where he fought for Matt Serra’s team.  His fight with Tommy Speer was a bloody fight where he lost by decision.  He then went on to fight Jared Rollins in the finale, where both fighters received Fight of the Night Honors.  Eventually War Machine was released from the UFC following a loss and some controversial comments made about the death of Evan Tanner.  He’s gone on to be very successful in smaller organizations.

Since then he legally changed his name to War Machine and took a job as a topless wine waiter. In the past year War has managed to get arrested for an assault at a porn party, then again at a gay club in Las Vegas. Most recently (last night) he was arrested at Thrusters Lounge in San Diego,California for apparently starting a brawl with some bouncers. Rumors have rapidly spread that weapons were involved.

Just three days ago, Machine was reported as saying he was going to get his act together and open up a gym with his fiance, things didn’t look too good last night though, as Machine was escorted to the police vehicle wearing a spit mask. So from gay porn to nightclub assaults and topless waiting the question is what is next for War Machine?

To be real though, Gomi has not been dominiating the fights in Japan lately, like his lightweight counterpart Shinya Aoki.  Gomi has won back to back fights making his last five fights 3-2, and many observers around the sport are wondering if the Fireball Kid’s best days are behind him.  In an interview with MMA weekly, Florian disagreed with the contention that Gomi is no longer a world class opposition.

”I don’t buy any of that ‘Gomi has been declining.’ I don’t believe that’s the case at all,” said Florian in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio recently.

“From what I hear, it seems like it’s his last run. When you get a guy like that who says things like that, he’s a dangerous guy,” said the Bostonian. “He wants to make one last run at getting a belt in a major organization. He feels this is the toughest organization in the world, which it is, and he’s going out there for blood.”

Kenny Florian and Takanori Gomi are set to headline The Ultimate Fight Night 21, Wednesday March 31, 2010.

The test, 6’11 Dutch Kickboxer Stefan Struve, who is riding a three fight win streak inside the Octagon.  The two are set to meet at Ultimate Fight Night 21 as the co-main event.

“Stefan definitely has a height and reach advantage,” Nelson responded when asked about his opponent.  “But it’s just one of those things that, as a fighter, you have to deal with.  You have to look past it and do what you need to do to get the W.”

Besides the huge reach advantage, Struve also brings a very well rounded game into the fight.  Even though most fighters bring a game plan to face their opponents, Nelson prefers to just be ready for anything and take what his opponent gives him instead.

With over ten years of experience under his Gracie black belt, there isn’t much that Nelson hasn’t already seen in a fight.

“It’s going to be a feeling-out process. If I feel like I’m winning the stand-up, I’ll probably keep it standing. But if I’m losing the stand-up fight, I’ll look to go to the ground. Hopefully I can win the ground stuff.”

Because of his already long list of wins over other veterans, Nelson believes a win over Struve could place him in the top tier of the UFC heavyweights.

“I feel that I’m right in the mix. Stefan Struve’s right in the mix too, so I think whoever wins will be in the mix for the title hunt. We’re co-headlining the card so we’re definitely people that the fans want to watch.”

While Nelson has always had the skill and ability to compete in the UFC, he chose to travel a different path. It’s been a long journey for Nelson to get to this point, but now that he is in the UFC, he feels at home.

“When I first started fighting, we considered doing the UFC and then I went a whole different route just to kind of build myself and build myself with fans. All roads will always end with the UFC. I just knew that eventually I would be in the UFC, so I just kind of did my own thing.”

Now that Nelson is finally in the UFC, he’s ready to fight the best and he feels that with his experience and skill set that he can be a problem for anyone including current UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar.

“I think in a matchup with Brock (Lesnar) I’d do pretty well; as Frank Mir would say, ‘as long as you’re a big guy.’ You have to be big with Brock so you can’t get muscled. I think styles make matches and I think that I matchup pretty well with anyone in the UFC.”
