Frankie Edgar put himself into a fight with the greatest Lightweight in the world.  In the end, he dethroned that great fighter. In one of the biggest upsets to take place in the UFC Octagon, Edgar ended the reign of Penn atop the lightweight division, posting a unanimous decision to take the title in the co-main event of UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

BJ Penn is set to defend his title this coming weekend against Frankie Edgar in Abu Dhabi. Penn is already considering moving back to the welterweight division if he successfully defends the title.
“If everything goes well (at UFC 112), I’d definitely consider moving up to 170. Not that it’s 100-percent guaranteed, but I’m thinking about it,” Penn said recently during a UFC 112 media conference call. “If I do move, I’m going to move slow. I’m not going to try to rush anything. I’d think about it as testing the waters, something like Anderson Silva is doing (at light heavyweight).”

Not even a week ago, Thiago Alves underwent brain surgery, and now he’s booked to fight as Dana White confirmed that Alves and Jon Fitch will be matched up at UFC 115 in Vancouver.
The two were scheduled to face off at UFC 111 last week, when Alves was sidelined by a brain irregulation during a CAT Scan. Alves went into surgery, and was told by doctors he only needed two or three weeks to recover before he can start training again.

The fight real MMA fans have been waiting for, was completely one sided.  In the end KenFlo pulled off a third round submission beating the Japanese champ.
The fight was dominated early with Kenny Florians superb stand-up where he picked Gomi apart, and rarely let Gomi counter.  The 2nd round Gomi had a few punches but not as much as Kenny Florian.  By the 3rd it was clear who was winning the fight until Gomi came out with a nice combo that rocked Florian, but KenFlo took Gomi down and caught him with a rear naked choke.

Tonight at Fight Night 21, TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson showed everyone why he has been in the game as long as he has.  Nelson faced off against 6’11 Stefan Struve who’s been known to dominate his fights, but tonight was a different story.
Nelson and Struve came out swinging, but not even 40 seconds in, Nelson caught Struve with a clean right hook and that was the end of the game.  After a barrage of punches on the ground, Nelson was pulled off, and Struve sat there blood gushing from his nose.

Yushin Okami is a veteran in MMA, who was ranked in the top 5 middleweights back in 2008, but dropped quickly.  He had lost only a few fights, yet fans thought he was boring and not explosive.
Tonight, on the undercard of Fight Night 21, Okami got the perfect opponent to show he is still one of the best.  Okami fought Lucio Linhares, and destroyed the Brazillian in the standup game.  Okami eventually came out with a TKO Victory after the doctor stopped the fight at 2:27 of the 2nd round.
It was the type of fight the casual or new MMA fan loves. One onlooker screamed out, “this is awesome,” as Okami battered a clearly overmatched Linhares from post to post. [...]

Since the season premier of TUF 11 airs tonight, it’s only right we talk about a former TUF cast member.  War Machine, formely known as Jon Koppenhaver, has been seeing himself in a lot of trouble lately.
War Machine was a member of TUF season 6 where he fought for Matt Serra’s team.  His fight with Tommy Speer was a bloody fight where he lost by decision.  He then went on to fight Jared Rollins in the finale, where both fighters received Fight of the Night Honors.  Eventually War Machine was released from the UFC following a loss and some controversial comments made about the death of Evan Tanner.  He’s gone on to be very successful in smaller organizations.

Last week Kenny Florian criticized the TUF Generation fans, that don’t know former-Pride champ Takanori Gomi is.  Basically, don’t call yourself a real MMA fan, if you are unaware of Gomi’s skill and accomplishments in Japan.
To be real though, Gomi has not been dominiating the fights in Japan lately, like his lightweight counterpart Shinya Aoki.  Gomi has won back to back fights making his last five fights 3-2, and many observers around the sport are wondering if the Fireball Kid’s best days are behind him.  In an interview with MMA weekly, Florian disagreed with the contention that Gomi is no longer a world class opposition.
